Canon World of EOS at Suria KLCC, 1st June

Canon’s World of EOS was in Suria KLCC this weekend starting 30 May to 2 June. I was there today, 1 June. Not much activities were held today, most were yesterday. Just too bad I couldn’t go yesterday instead because I had tuition… Yesterday’s event saw a model shooting, with models holding many, many nice Canon models and a chance for the photographers to win a Canon EOS 40D with a photo from the event. The give out cameras like nothing sometimes.

Of course, since there wasn’t many events, I have to admit the main reason I went there was for the Eyes of EOS section, which you’ll see later. Okay, also to get a basic checkup and service for my camera and lenses there, which is free to Canon EOS and SLR users :D

Note: photos in this post have gone through no editing other than watermarks.

Click “read the rest of this entry” for more. I don’t wanna flood it.

Alright, something off topic before I begin.

I saw this Lamborghini Countach LP5000S while going there… I’ve seen newer Lambos like the Murcielago and Gallardo, and even sat in them both and started the Murcielago’s engine but this, this is a classic. And it’s in pristine condition. Too bad it was stuck in bad weather and I could only really hear it’s engine at the toll.

Right… back to the topic.

There’s a macro section.

which had an EOS 400D with an EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens. And starring…

…FAKE bugs. That’s right. I guess real ones would cause screams and shrieks Canon wouldn’t want. LOL

Next… Eyes of EOS. The centre of attention. The MOST expensive stuff out there.

L-R: EOS 30D + EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS USM, EOS 40D + EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM, EOS 5D + EF 500mm f/4 L IS USM, EOS-1D Mark III + EF 600mm f/4 L IS USM

That’s four of Canon’s top super telephoto primes with a gap of 100mm each along with high-speed cameras; 30D: 5fps, 40D: 6.5fps, 5D: 3fps, 1D Mark III: 10 fps. Okay, with the exception of the 5D…

There was a “No children allowed” sign at the entrance to the area but I got in and the person allowed me to put my spare card into the cameras. Must have been because my camera was around my neck. lol

The slowest among all there, a 5D with 3fps. Still tolerable but nothing compared to the rampant 10fps by the 1D Mark III but I like that 500mm lens. Photo taken with 5D… heh

I tried them all so here are the samples.

I’ll start with the EOS 30D and the EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS USM. All 3 photos are taken on from approximately a 30-metre radius. Yes, the cameras were on monopods. Manfrotto monopods.

With such reach, people just don’t notice you’re taking them if you do. For privacy reasons, I avoid posting such photos up although I did take such. The 300mm’s maximum f/2.8 aperture makes it super fast and it stops action easily.

Next, the EOS 40D + EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM

Again, f/2.8. Super fast. Super sharp. Period.

Next, EOS 5D + EF 500mm f/4 L IS USM. Not as fast now, but phenomenal reach for anything.

Of course, due to it’s full frame sensor, it’s not as tele as the previous two, which have 1.6X crop factors. Look at the bokeh (background blur) in the first photo. Awesome!

Next up, my favourite combo… EOS-1D Mark III + EF 600mm f/4 L IS USM. Only the other day I saw it in Pavilion, today I tried it out! And with a great camera.

Hold down the 1D Mark III’s shutter for a second and it throws 10 photos to you in an instant. Plus, it makes a nice sound at it.

Since I never ever posted photos of myself on this blog, I’ll do this time… Also for a comparison of the size of the lenses. Now, don’t laugh.

Me + 1D Mark III + 600mm f/4 L IS USM

Me + 30D + 300mm f/2.8 L IS USM

LOL. I know, my hair looks dumb.

You can also send in your camera for a basic checkup and cleaning. The counter is not at the main event area, it’s away from it.

They also cleaned up my dad’s A-1, an old 35mm film Canon SLR using the FD System.

After cleaning, your sensor WILL be spotless and squeaky clean!

No, I didn’t open it in Photoshop and paint it white all the way. It’s out of the camera, no editing except for the watermark. Taken at f/22, bulb mode, 105mm on EOS 5D.

Here’s the rest of the entry. Some night photos of the twin towers, shot handheld, thanks to higher ISO speeds and mirror lockup. All taken by me + EOS 400D + EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM.

That’s all! Phew.

Thanks for reading and take care everyone!
